So I stopped using the OOKISA products. I enjoyed the follicle serum for a bit but I still have been noticing that my hair seems more dry than normal. The only think that was different is the shampoo/conditioner so I am giving that up and returning it for my cancellation. I have gone back to Kiss My Face. I love their products. The shampoo and conditioner are mild and leave my hair light and fluffy. I am sticking with that!
It still appears to be thinner in some parts as well so I am doubling up on the meditation to relax more. Summer is the time for invites and parties which tend to leave me sleeping less. I need to catch up on my rest too.

Why Foxxy Alopecia?
I have recently been diagnosed with Alopecia Areata. This blog will chronicle my experiences and focus on the positive aspects on my life. My friend TMM gave me the nickname foxxy (with 2 x's, sometimes 3) a few years ago. It's only used in a close-knit circle of friends but I have to laugh when I hear it. Adding the Alopecia references Austin Powers-that makes me laugh too. Foxxy Alopecia is my attempt at making my situation more humorous and not to take things so seriously. I plan on treating Foxxy Alopecia as a laughable character that must be taken down. I do plan on beating this!

Alopecia Areata Essential Oil Treatment
A study in the Archives of Dermatology (Hay 1998) found that 44% of participants who massaged their scalps with a mixture of essential oils daily for 3 months showed growth in the bald areas compared to only 15% of those in the control group. The tonic was composed of active essential oils:
2 drops thymus vulgaris (thyme)
3 drops lavandula angustrifolia (lavender)
3 drops rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary)
2 drops cedrus atlantica (cedar)
and used the carrier oils:
jojoba oil 3 ml
grapeseed oil 20 ml
Massage 2-3 drops of oil per area into the scalp each evening for a minimum of 2 minutes.
Wrap a warm towel around your head for 1 hour.
The nice people at Aroma Workshop mixed up this serum for me with organic pecan oil. I plan on massaging liberally as directed. They are located in Lincoln Park and they were very helpful.
